El joven Chartier, investigador y mediador

Abstract

El artículo examina los inicios del derrotero intelectual de Roger Chartier entre las décadas de 1960 y 1980 sobre la base de sus primeros artículos, notas de lectura y reseñas en revistas académicas. Con respecto a esa producción, son dos los paradigmas que aquí se trazan. En primer lugar, una combinación de investigación individual y colectiva en diferentes instituciones como la École Normale Supérieure y la Université de Paris I que giró en torno de objetos históricos como las sociabilidades, la educación, el libro y la lectura y la historia de las mentalidades. En segundo lugar, se observa otro paradigma que corresponde a su lugar en la discusión epistemológica mediante la escritura de reseñas en diferentes revistas académicas a fin de importar temáticas de la historiografía internacional y contribuciones de otras ciencias sociales, en particular de la sociología y la antropología. En suma, un primer tramo de su trayectoria atravesado por múltiples órdenes de la nueva historia cultural que se estaba gestando junto con una crítica de los aspectos más estructurales y cerrados de la historia de las mentalidades que no tardará en desarrollar en su período más clásico.

The article examines the beginnings of Roger Chartier’s intellectual path between the 1960s and 1980s on the basis of his first articles, lecture notes and reviews in academic journals. With respect to this production, two paradigms are traced here. First, a combination of individual and collective research in different institutions such as the École Normale Supérieure and the Université de Paris I that revolved around historical objects such as sociabilities, education, books and reading, and the history of mentalities. Secondly, another paradigm corresponds to his place in the epistemological discussion through the writing of reviews in different academic journals in order to import themes of international historiography and contributions from other social sciences, in particular sociology and anthropology. In short, a first part of his career crossed by multiple orders of the new cultural history that was emerging along with a critique of the most structural and closed aspects of the history of mentalities that he would not take long to develop in his most classical period.
