Marcelino García Junco y los primeros textos de química orgánica en México

Abstract

El presente trabajo tiene el propósito de describir y analizar la trayectoria académica del ingeniero químico Marcelino García Junco y Payan (1902-1964), quien fue profesor de Química orgánica en la Escuela Nacional de Ciencias Químicas (ENCQ), hoy Facultad de Química (FQ) de la Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM). La investigación, en particular, pretende resaltar su contribución a la enseñanza de la Química orgánica a través de sus cátedras y libros de texto. El estudio se llevó a cabo desde una perspectiva histórica que tiene como contexto la ENCQ entre 1920 y 1956 y su vínculo con la industria de los esteroides; se realizó a través de la consulta de fuentes documentales del Archivo Histórico de la UNAM, en especial el Fondo Escuela Nacional de Ciencias Químicas y la Sección de Expedientes de alumnos y académicos. También se realizaron entrevistas con familiares del ilustre químico mexicano.

The aim of this paper is to describe and analyze the Chemical Engineer Marcelino García Junco y Payan’s (1902-1964) academic career, who was an organic chemistry teacher at the National School of Chemistry Science (ENCQ by its acronym in spanish), today known as UNAM’s Chemistry Faculty (FQ by its acronym in spanish). The research, particularly, tries to highlight his organic chemistry teachings through his lectures and text-books. The study was carried out from a historic perspective which has as a context the (ENCQ between 1920 and 1956 and his link to the steroid industry. The research is based on primary sources review work as UNAM’s students and teacher’s files, located in the UNAM’s Historic Archive, and oral history such as interviews with the illustrious Mexican chemist.
