Resumen
El presente artículo tiene como objetivo principal investigar el proceso de introducción del cáñamo en América en general y en el Virreinato del Río de la Plata en particular, centrándose en la figura de Manuel Belgrano en su rol como funcionario colonial. Se busca comprender el papel desempeñado por la corona española en primer lugar y posteriormente por Belgrano en relación con la promoción y difusión del cultivo de cáñamo en la región, considerando su posición dentro del sistema colonial y su interés por impulsar transformaciones económicas y productivas en el Virreinato. The main goal of this article is to investigate the process of introducing hemp in America in general and in the Viceroyalty of the Río de la Plata in particular, focusing on the figure of Manuel Belgrano in his role as a colonial official. The aim is to understand the role played by the Spanish crown in the first place, and later by Manuel Belgrano in promoting and disseminating hemp cultivation in the region taking into account their position within the colonial system and their interest in driving economic and productive transformations in the Viceroyalty.
