Momentos constitucionales en el desarrollo de la química en la Argentina (1801-1942)

Abstract

El presente trabajo tiene por objeto presentar una posible historia de la química, fundamentalmente de la química académica y de la química industrial investigada, a partir del análisis de los diferentes momentos constitucionales por los cuales atravesó en su desarrollo en la Argentina durante el período 1801-1942. Se hace visible una travesía de sentidos asociada a tres momentos constitucionales fuertes que se recortan tanto a nivel cognitivo como institucional. En efecto, primero ingresó al país como una química enseñada vinculada a la farmacia y la medicina; luego, se constituyó como una profesión a la vez que buscó su diferenciación respecto de la farmacia; y por último, se produjo un proceso de diferenciación entre investigación y docencia en química con la aparición de instituciones donde comenzaron a realizarse actividades de investigación. Esta constatación nos permite llamar la atención acerca de que la química en la Argentina posee especificidades que la distinguen y la diferencian de la historia de la química a nivel internacional.

The purpose of this paper is to present a possible history of chemistry, mainly of academic chemistry and industrial chemistry, based on the analysis of the different constitutional moments that their development in Argentina went through during the period 1801-1942. Different meanings, associated with three strong constitutional moments that are both cognitively and institutionally, turn visible. Indeed, it first entered the country as a taught chemistry linked to pharmacy and medicine; later, it was constituted as a profession while seeking its differentiation from the pharmacy; and finally, there was a process of differentiation between research and teaching in chemistry with the appearance of institutions where research activities began to take place. This finding allows us to draw attention that chemistry in Argentina has specificities that distinguish it and differentiate it from the international history of chemistry.
